Vacuum Technology Driving Hyperloop Forward

MDC & ISI Sponsor UW-Madison BadgerLoop Team in SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition

February 16, 2017

In the summer of 2016, MDC Vacuum Products, LLC, was approached by the University of Wisconsin–Madison BadgerLoop hyperloop pod team ( with a sponsorship opportunity. BadgerLoop is a student organization team that was created in preparation for the SpaceX Hyperloop Competition. MDC Vacuum Products and their Insulator Seal (ISI) division, were thrilled to donate the components the team needed. MDC’s contribution provided BadgerLoop with the means to create a versatile vacuum testing environment, in which they could verify the operation of their pod’s numerous power system components in a vacuum. With MDC’s help, BadgerLoop was able to design and fabricate a successful, competitive pod, for the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition, while also helping lay the foundation for what could be the next major transportation industry.   Read more

Progressing Fusion Energy Science at the University of Washington

January 24, 2017

MDC Vacuum Products, LLC, recently had the opportunity to design and manufacture a 60” spherical ultra-high vacuum chamber for Professor Setthivoine You and his team of researchers at the University of Washington ( This was both an exciting and challenging manufacturing job that allowed MDC to contribute to new and important research. The goal of this research is to simulate an accretion disk and astrophysical jet in the ultra-high vacuum chamber in order to study the properties of plasma and magnetic fields. This will help advance the understanding of how astrophysical jets become so large, sometimes hundreds of thousands of light years long, while maintaining stability.    Read more
